Our Deacons

The Diaconate's ministry at All Souls Fellowship is about meeting felt needs through deeds (though not in deed alone). The primary works of the Diaconate are mercy (crisis care), compassion (spiritual care), and resource stewardship. By administering God's grace in tangible ways to the sick, lonely, bereaved and those in any way distressed, we come alongside those in need of support because of life's circumstances, as well as those who find themselves in emergency or crisis situations.

We move out into the body as servants of the church, ministering to the needs of the church family and those beyond. We listen to and pray with both members of the body and also those outside the body, offering connection. We also stand ready to support the community of Decatur at large by helping those who come to our church in need. The Diaconate responds by coming alongside to pray and listen, to identify needs, and to mobilize support so that we can experience the fruit of our faith, be healed of our afflictions and be restored to our calling to love and care for others.

The deacons serve for God's glory and for our joy through the work of three teams:

  • We come alongside those in need of support, those who find themselves in emergency or crisis situations due to unforeseen circumstances, by administering God's grace in tangible ways. We pray and listen to discern tangible ways we can provide relief and healing, to share the burden, and to promote stability and restoration.

  • We come alongside the sick, bereaved and lonely to offer spiritual friendship and connection by meeting together regularly for connection, prayer and encouragement.

  • We steward the facility and human resources God has given us for the benefit of our community and those in need by providing leadership in building maintenance and repairs, as well as organizing volunteers efforts to support those in need.

The primary mindset of a Deacon is that of a servant–one who understands deeply his/her own sin, the healing balm of the grace of God, and the benefit and need to offer the same to another. The qualifications of a deacon are found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:3–honorable and of good reputation, honest and faithful, sober-minded and moderate, holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience, stewards of God's gifts in their lives, full of wisdom, and of good reputation.

If you are in need of assistance that the Diaconate can provide, please contact a member of the pastoral staff or your community group leader to initiate the support process, or email deacons@allsoulsfellowship.org. We would love to come alongside you in support and help carry the burden.
